Camp Hopson, one of the country’s leading independent department stores, has commenced the upgrade of its EPOS system to touch screen technology and real-time updating to back office by the installation of 5 Touchretail EPOS terminals.
Saving the environment and saving money
Although Touchretail are supplying the latest Toshiba B10 EPOS hardware, they are utilising the store’s existing POS peripherals such as cash drawer, customer display and receipt printer and barcode reader. David Powell, Touchretail sales director, comments:
‘While the technology has advanced significantly in recent years, many department stores have perfectly good POS peripherals that are not very different from current models. Because the Toshiba B10 is a modular system, we are able to replace the PC-base and touch screen, while retaining the existing hardware peripherals. This means we don’t have to put perfectly good hardware into the skip – and of course it saves capital expenditure at the same time. So when the government has withdrawn any benefit to the business from CRC reduction, it makes sense to have a solution which is both cost effective and environmentally friendly.’

Touchretail’s back office Retail Accounts was already installed at Camp Hopson for accounting and management reporting linked to their legacy EPOS system. By the addition of Touchretail’s ’02 Barcodes’ module, we have been able to accommodate the new Touchretail EPOS tills as well as the legacy tills in the data feed to the back office. This enables Camp Hopson to phase in the new tills over a few months, allowing staff to become familiar with the new POS software over a period of time.
Sentinel EFT solution
The new Touchretail tills have been installed with integrated EFT using Commidea’s Sentinel solution. Being a managed service, this helps Camp Hopson to meet PCI DSS requirements. Sentinel is installed with the browser based WebCom reporting module, which enables card transactions to be reported and located within seconds of the transaction taking place.

Camp Hopson won the coveted Drapers Award 2009 for Best Independent Department Store, and the 2009/10 Housewares Award for Best Independent Department Store was the latest in a long line of awards and accreditations for this forward looking store.
