Searches and Purchases Growth YOY Q3 2011

The British Retail Consortium (BRC) have published their latest BRC-Google Online Retail Monitor figures for the third quarter 2011. The figures compare the equivalent period in 2010, and show a vigorous 35% increase in online searches.

Online Sales still outstripping instore sales growth

Within this, searches for online only (pureplay) retailers increased by 71%, while those for multi-channel retailers rose 26%. The purchases figure shows an increase of 10%, suggesting that there is a lot of research and price comparison before completing the transaction. However, when compared to instore purchases, which only show a marginal increase of less than 1%, online sales growth is still outstripping general retail by some way. (more…)

Linzi Shoes at Westfield Stratford City - 1Fashion footwear specialist Linzi Shoes called on Touchretail’s shoe system help with the opening of their new store at Westfield Stratford City. Although Linzi had recently implemented a system from an alternative supplier, they were not getting information quickly or accurate enough for their fast-moving business. Linzi approached Touchretail to replace their current inventory and EPOS system only weeks before the opening of their latest store at the Westfield Stratford City (WSC) retail centre.

Touchretail Furniture Software Stand A92

Part of Touchretail's stand at the Manchester Furniture Exhibition

The FRS-POS and X-Margin Furniture Software shown by Touchretail was a great success at the Manchester Furniture Exhibition earlier this week. After the stand set-up day on Saturday, and four days of being on the exhibition stand, it’s a lot more exhausting than other forms of promoting the products, but the response proved that there is still a place for exhibitions.

Wedding First at Touchretail for Andy and Laura

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

Andy, Laura and IzzyCongratulations to Andy Ellerton, one of Touchretail’s developers, and Laura on their wedding last weekend.  After 7 years of Touchretail being in business, Andy is the first of our team to tie the knot during that time.

On a day heavily laden with clouds, Andy and Laura exchanged vows at Stoke Minster, and the photographer did an excellent job of organising the various groups for photos as the rain threatened. They even managed to get in the photos at the hotel venue before the heavens opened.

It was a lovely service, with a special candle lit in memory of baby Jack at the start of the proceedings. The lady vicar had a great way of putting guests and no doubt the wedding party at ease during the ceremony.

With the wedding held at 12 noon we thought it was going to be a long day, but funny how time flies once the bar was open at the hotel.

Andy and Laura are photographed with Izzy, who is so pleased that Andy is now officially part of the family – and Andy just as pleased to be officially stepdad for Izzy. Baby Isaac (2 weeks old) was also in attendance, though not too aware of the events taking place.

And of course as the evening wore on, the stragglers (Stu, Anthony, Jay and yours truly) started to come up with great ideas for new systems and working methods. Thankfully now all rather hazy and dubious.

Best wishes to Andy, Laura, Izzy and baby Isaac for happiness and health in the years ahead.

May Retail Sales Dip Through Uncertainty

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

Uncertain_retail_salesConsumers’ uncertainty about jobs and income was blamed for the dip in UK retail sales figures for May, according to latest report from the BRC (British Retail Consortium). Total retail sales declined 0.3% in May year-on-year, but that was against a strong 3% increase in 2010 as reported by the BRC KPMG Retail Sales Monitor.

Within this figure there are as always variations, and while online sales growth of non-store non-food items slowed, the year-on-year increase here is still a healthy 10.4%. Sales through mobile devices continue to increase.
