Searches and Purchases Growth YOY Q3 2011

The British Retail Consortium (BRC) have published their latest BRC-Google Online Retail Monitor figures for the third quarter 2011. The figures compare the equivalent period in 2010, and show a vigorous 35% increase in online searches.

Online Sales still outstripping instore sales growth

Within this, searches for online only (pureplay) retailers increased by 71%, while those for multi-channel retailers rose 26%. The purchases figure shows an increase of 10%, suggesting that there is a lot of research and price comparison before completing the transaction. However, when compared to instore purchases, which only show a marginal increase of less than 1%, online sales growth is still outstripping general retail by some way. (more…)

Web-sales setup1

The latest release of Rapidstock includes a facility to bulk-transfer the stock for all website sales. This is particularly useful for businesses that despatch all goods for website sales from a specific branch, which is NOT the website branch. These businesses will typically have the website sales coming in as a separate branch – for easy and instant monitoring of website sales against shop sales, but will hold all stock for website sales at the same branch as the stock for the shop sales. This may be the shop location, or a warehouse location.

Simple setup

The web-sales bulk transfer is simple to set up on your standard Rapidstock software. (more…)

YOY Retail Sales Growth March 2011

YOY Retail Sales Growth March 2011

Once we analyse the sales figures for March 2011, we can take some positives out of them in spite of what we are lead to believe by other commentators. It was well reported that High Street sales growth figures for March 2011 were ‘the worst for over 15 years’. While the total High Street retail sales were indeed down 1.9% on March 2010, the figures for March 2010 were actually 6.6% up on the previous year due to both Easter bank holidays falling in March last year.

And when we compare the equivalent figures for online sales, the story becomes very different. Online sales for March 2011 showed an increase of 14% on (more…)

November and December 2010 E-Commerce Growth Of 30% Year-on-Year

Year-on-Year Online Sales Growth November & December 2010

Year-on-Year Online Sales Growth November & December 2010

Taking November and December total ecommerce sales together, the figures for 2010 show an increase of over 30% on the same two months in December 2009, states the eTracker 100 report published by MetaPack. This compares very favourably to instore sales for the same period, which by latest reports seem to have been only marginally higher in 2010 than 2009.

Large fluctuation

November online sales showed a 38% increase, while the final result for December was a more modest 26% increase – but still impressive bearing in mind the snow and ice that played havoc with pre-Christmas shopping. And although ahead of previous predictions – see blog post Mega Monday Exceeds Expectations – December online trade fluctuated week by week dramatically. (more…)
