Sunday, December 6th, 2009

Roomes are an AIS member furniture retailer whose family-run business has traded successfully for 120 years, and operates from a modern furniture store in Upminster, Essex.

Having operated the FRSnet furniture stock system for some years, Roomes have been looking for an accounting system that provides a good integration to their stock system.

Touchretail can supply the FRSnet furniture stock system and provide training and support services, and already have fully integrated systems with other furniture retailers.

Touchretail’s Retail Accounts accounting and management reporting software not only provides seamless integration to FRSnet, but also interfaces to the AIS Cenpac electronic statements and invoices system.

After Touchretail provided the software and implementation services on time and within budget, managing director Michael Roome commented: ‘Retail Accounts will allow us to streamline our back office systems.  This is an exciting time for us in bringing our systems up to date and I am looking forward to reaping the benefits from this investment’.

With a remit to upgrade their legacy accounting software, Winch & Blatch undertook a thorough evaluation of the various options available. Touchretail were awarded the contract for their Retail Accounts accounting and management reporting system, with a go-live date of early February to coincide with the new financial year at Winch & Blatch.

Richard Blatch, managing director of Winch & Blatch, liked the fact that the Retail Accounts system was already proven in similar department stores throughout the AIS group.

As well as replacing the legacy software and performing data conversions, Touchretail have supplied an automated interface between the EPOS tills at Winch & Blatch and their back office accounts.

Located over four buildings in the centre of Sudbury, Winch & Blatch departments include fashions, lingerie, shoes, luggage, cookshop, soft furnishings, linens, gifts, crafts & haberdashery and toiletries.

C & H Fabrics Accounts

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

With 7 stores in the South East of England and a head office in Tunbridge Wells, C&H have developed their business significantly since the early fabric shops started in 1933.

In the company’s own words: ‘Our trade is heavily labour intensive, and the strength of the Company lies in its staff; in their attitudes, specialist knowledge, and commitment.  A retail company is judged daily by customers on how well every member, in every store, performs.’

It is therefore important that the head office control systems for the ledgers and personnel records (with over 400 staff) are accurate, easy to administer and are able to provide management information quickly. Having used Retail Accounts for some time, it was decided to integrate the accounting function with the EPOS tills throughout the group early in 2009. One of the challenges is that C&H utilise outsourced labour at every branch for making up and finishing curtains, which needs to be handled through the Purchase Ledger.

Touchretail have incorporated this, along with the ability to match tills to cash taken and banking details, into their Retail Accounts Central Cash Office Module.

After the successful implementation of the Retail Accounts EPOS Integration at the Tunbridge Wells store, the module is now being rolled out at all C&H stores.

C&H stores typically offer curtains and blinds and accessories, furniture, upholstery and cushions, fabrics, knitting wools, sewing accessories, crafts and gifts – with most stores also offering their customers an excellent coffee shop, and of course there is the online store.

After the successful implementation of their new merchandise system, Lawsons decided it was time to replace their long-established DOS-based Accounting system. After in-depth research and evaluation of products currently available, Lawsons selected Retail Accounts from Touchretail to operate as their next generation software for the Accounting and Management Reporting for the business.

Liz Lawson, Managing Director, was impressed by the Retail Accounts attributes such as:

  • General ease of data entry and system management
  • On screen drill down of documents to source data
  • Simple export of data and reports to spreadsheet
  • Potential of interface to Lawsons existing CSY merchandise system and tills

On top of all this, other attributes such as Branch Accounting and sophisticated Clearing House facilities made Retail Accounts the perfect fit for Lawsons’ requirements – they join the increasing number of AIS member stores that are migrating to Touchretail’s Retail Accounts.

Botterills introduce fuel accounts

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

With around 50 Spar stores across central Scotland, Botterills are one of the leading independent convenience retailers in the country. After the recent acquisition of a site in Ayr on the busy Prestwick (Airport) Road, Botterills now operate their first fuel site.

Although the site previously had its own fuel billing system, there was no head office interface. As suppliers of the Retail Accounting System for the entire Group, Touchretail were tasked with developing a solution to enable head office to monitor and analyse the Fuel Accounts. The result is a bolt-on module to the Retail Accounting Customer Accounts which now enables Botterills head office to record every fuel transaction, including analysis of fuel type and mileage – both of which are stored on the VAT invoice.

Stock control at the Botterills warehouse has become more complex as the Group has grown. Touchretail have made customer-specified modifications to the Warehouse Stock System which will enable better sell-through of stock, in particular to utilise replacement or substitute lines for lines that are either no longer available or out of stock.

Bespoke software modifications by Touchretail enable clients to gain maximum benefit from initial software investment made as trading methods develop over time.

Camp Hopson go live

Monday, January 5th, 2009

The start of the new financial year on 1st February saw Camp Hopson go live with Touchretail’s ‘Retail Accounts’ accounting and management reporting software. After 3 months of system evaluation on a ‘training’ system, Camp Hopson were confident that the system go-live would run smoothly.

Set in the heart of Newbury in Berkshire, Camp Hopson have a 40,000 sq.ft. Department store and a separate 20,000 sq.ft. Furniture store; the Group’s businesses are completed by a funeral directing business and a removals and storage business with 25,000 sq.ft. of containerised storage in Newbury and Dorchester.

After a lengthy consultation process, Richard Tavener (finance director at Camp Hopson) recommended the appointment of Touchretail to implement their Retail Accounts accounting and management reporting software for the Group’s retail business. Richard comments: ‘Touchretail were able to demonstrate their knowledge of our business requirements, and their ability to support our administrative section in the run up to going live with Retail Accounts.’

‘The evaluation software that was offered gave us the opportunity to fully test the system and highlight any issues prior to our scheduled go-live date. This has enabled us to work to our project plan in a structured and timely manner, and to approach what is a daunting task with confidence. We are very pleased with Touchretail’s hands-on approach and attention to detail.’

In addition to the usual ledgers and reports, Retail Accounts has several electronic interfaces at Camp Hopson, including BACS payments and interfaces to their existing EPOS and furniture unit stock systems. Touchretail were also commissioned to produce some bespoke reports for Camp Hopson to complement the management reports available from the Retail Accounts system.
