The statement released by Shopify
Shopify released the following statement detailing changes that are taking place and will be enforced across all Shopify systems on August 1st 2018.
Shopify is preparing to release multi-location inventory features to all merchants this summer. All apps that create fulfillments or manage inventory will need to be updated by July 1st, 2018, to remain functional on shops that track inventory across multiple locations. Key dates:
July 1st, 2018 (Extended to August 1st)
-- Apps will no longer be able to create fulfillments without specifying a location
-- Apps will no longer be able to set inventory on the Product/Variant APIs
The line highlighted in bold is the change that impacts the TRIMS Shopify Connector.
What the Shopify API update means to you
If your Shopify website is integrated with TRIMS you will be using the TRIMS Shopify Connector. This is a piece of software that sits between Shopify and TRIMS. This software communicates the relevant messages between the two systems to keep them synchronised. For this to happen the connector talks to the TRIMS API and the Shopify API. The changes that come into effect on the 1st of August 2018 change the way the API works, stopping the connector from communicating.
Changes we've made to the Shopify Connector
We’ve been busy making the relevant changes to the Shopify connector so that it is compatible with the changes that Shopify have introduced.
What do I need to do about the API update?
Unawares to you, the new connector would have already been implemented on your system, and it has been running for a number of days - you do not need to do anything at all. We are publishing this article purely to keep you informed that changes have been made.
